Carline Murphy Bio

My primary focus of the past decades had been to service the need of children, geriatric patients in the long term care settings and community advocacy

After the death of my oldest son, Rene Romain, Jr., artist/poetry writer, who was shot and killed of a gunshot wound by a police officer in Boston, Massachusetts in 2001 at the age of 19, my objective is to apply the acquired skills, experience and training in an area that serves others in every level of our society.

Early on as a dental health coordinator I planned, organized and directed programs, established short and long term goal care plan in assessing needs, I contributed two chapters in an award-winning techniques for delivering dental services to access problem groups, including residents of skilled nursing/adult homes, homebound and underserved populations of developing and underdeveloped countries. "Mobile Dentistry," by J. Edward Murphy, DMD, PennWell Books, 1996. As a volunteer I traveled to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to translate, to assist with dental/social work related duties for the Christian Dental Society during the Haitian refugee crisis. I assisted parents of preschoolers with education, healthcare needs, and social services referral for Albany & Columbia County, and Head Start in Hudson, NY.

As a health coordinator, I also understand the importance of arts in healing our world. My son was an artist, and through the work of HCDP I’ve deepened my commitment to the arts.

I initiated and coordinated with the support of the Columbia County Council on the Arts the "Spirit and Passion: Afro-Caribbean Art," a music, dance, and visual art event that catalyzed the identity formation of the Haitian community, and both its visibility within and integration with the larger Hudson community and Columbia County community for the bicentennial celebration of Haiti's 200 year independence.

I am the Founder, President and Coordinator of the Haitian Community Development Project, an organization that offers Advocacy, ESL/citizenship training, music, and also support Arts & Cultural activities.

From June 2005 to October 2008, I was the Arts In Education Director at the Columbia County at the Arts. I performed in the 2004 – 2005 Stageworks Hudson performance of "A Hudson Holiday".  I participated in the 2006-07 Teaching Artist Training Institute, led by Mark DeGarmo & Dancers/Dynamic Forms, Inc. in New York, NY; the 2007-2008 Common Ground Arts in Education Conference in Rochester, NY; and 2007-2008 Playwright workshop at the Hudson Opera House in Hudson, New York.

I completed my High School in Miami, FL in 1981. I was trained as a Medical Office Manager in Brookline ,MA in 1983. Later, in 1995, I received my Bachelor of Science in Human Services and completed 12 graduate credits in Social Policy at SUNY/Empire State College in Saratoga Springs, NY, I am a former Chairperson of the New York National Guard Corps of Cadets Parents Association, former member of the Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Policy council of Albany County Head Start, ormer Vice-President and former President of the Town of Kinderhook Republican Club. I reside in the Town of Kinderhook.
